Mathilius Schack Elo was trained as a conservator by his father and taught at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1913 to 1916. He was a conservator at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek from 1914. Mathilius Schack Elo made several portrait busts, including those of H.W. Bissen and H.E. Freund. He also made several fountain sculptures, for example the equestrian statue at Hjultorv in Næstved by Peder Bodilsen.
